File Format - Making my drawing look like AutoCad

Post by HeyHerk » Fri Sep 15, 2023 2:15 pm

OK I like the program but cannot get my drawing (using Windows 10 and trial Pro version) to include all detail from my Autocad version. I'm also using progeCAD 24 and can save it to multiple formats but have not found one to work. I really do not want to re-do all the work. Any suggestions?

Qcad never tried to clone or compete with AC what means there is a big chance that there will in one or an other area a different approach how things are handled.

What in particular isn't working semi similar to AC?
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

All drawing lines in my original Autocad drawings are not visiable.

Some are but not all.

This makes using this program very time consuming unless I am starting from scratch.

I just have too much done already to start over or uncover what is wrong.

Plus I don't even know where to start to make it usable.

I would love to buy and convert all the qcad so this is a real issue.

Any suggestions?

Please attache such an AC drawing to your post and we will have a look why the lines are not visible.

You probably have the lineweight set to default and the default is set too narrow or your drawing might be in 3D.
With 'Screen-based Linetypes' active you should at least see most entities in Model Space.
What is your background and your entities color, is QCAD set to avoid black on black, white on white?
What do you see when you type the 'T' key and then the 'A' key? (Shortcut for Select All)
Try flatten your drawing to 2D. See Misc .. Modify .. Flatten Drawing to 2D.

The dxf format will not really matter a lot in general, the latest R32 (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023) will be fine.
QCAD simply doesn't support all ACAD features and tweaks.
But basic entity weight should not be a problem unless set almost invisible.
Please don't compare applications without evaluating the price setting.

In any doubt then follow Husky's advice.
You don't have to attach a whole drawing, a little snippet with the mentioned shortcoming is fine.

Hi,

The file contains 362 entities, mostly lines (283).
The region near the origin looks like:
HeyHerkDxf.png
HeyHerkDxf.png (49.9 KiB) Viewed 8132 times
Far away from the origin we detect:
A text 'Window' at about (-23239, 2148)
3 lines at about (-9404, 7700)

The Layout contains a single Viewport 8.48 by 6.46 at scale 0.0184 what doesn't show anything.

The 7 layers have lineweight default and for me that is set to 0.25 ISO.

There are 75 unused Block Definitions and 5 unused Layers.
There is a small known problem with a few blocks, the content is nowhere near the origin.
On Inserting QCAD shows the origin at the cursor ... Not the arbitrary middle of the content.
For example: The content of Block 'Panel' (used 9 times) is about 1495 units away from its origin.

Drawing unit is 'None', paper unit is mm, Measurement system is Imperial.
Linear Dimension format can not be architectural with unit 'None'.

Can you tell us how it should look like?

Regards,
CVH

Hi HeyHerk

I think this could be the main problem.. I opened in AutoCad and it has missing application Ae~Base70 etc "addon maybe"?
"Architectural Desktop 2007" <--- Addon ??
this is the error message plus screenshot.. pretty similar in AutoCad to what I get in Qcad but some scaling needs addressed...
