I cannot open dxf files created with QCAD

Post by pdubalen » Sun Dec 18, 2016 2:09 pm

Good morning,
I just installed the QCAD new version 3.16.1 (for windows).
I cannot open dxf files I created a few months ago, as soon as the QCAD pro add-on has expired it seems.
I always used the free version.
Thank you and kind regards.

Thank you for your answer.
I'm sorry, I used a wrong forum and I thought my post was lost.
Here is an example.

Please remove the trial add-ons if you wish to use the free version. If you cannot remove the add-ons automatically (using the remove button in the trial widget), you need to delete the indicated files manually.

Thank you but I did.
I just installed the new 3.16.4 and I removed the pro version trial. I had to use "run as admin" for that.
I still have the issue: "impossible to open the file, import failed"
In french in my version I tried to translate.
Regards.

Could it be that the file is in a path that contains international characters (French accents, etc)? If so, can you move the file to the desktop or a path that does not contain any unicode characters? The QCAD Community Edition uses dxflib which cannot handle unicode paths under Windows.

Thank you, that's right.
The complete path contains indeed french accents.
I changed that and now it works.
Thank you again.

tippi,

Your file opens on clicking on it (copy in ..\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\...)
Or when saved in a straightforward path.
Using QCAD PRO that is.

It is a metric drawing that consists of 1 full arc on layer 'assy2' with diameter 23mm.

CVH

Hello CVH,
Thank you for having a look.
I am trying to import that test.dxf in Fusion360 or viewing it with a regular dxf viewer (e.g. Autodesk viewer, ShareCAD.org, etc.).
Yes, you can open the file, but It seems to be an empty file. The circle is not to be seen.

Cristian

I can confirm your findings. However, why a circle is drawn as a 360° arc is debatable but QCAD is obviously reading that information correctly. The question should now be why Fusion360, Autodesk viewer and ShareCad are not able to interpret the entity information correctly. Have you ask the developer of those software's?

Hmmm, this counts in my book as a 1:0 for QCAD ...

Just my 2 cents ...
