Unable to Install QCAD 3.27.6 64bit on Windows 11 - Windows Installer Service

Post by jcarlson1701 » Tue Jul 26, 2022 3:03 am

Hello. I just purchased QCAD Pro (v. 3.27.6) and the installation has failed multiple times. Upon selecting "install" from the dialog box I receive the following error...

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer has not been properly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

Due to the nature of this error (Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed). I've tried the following troubleshooting steps...

Run services.msc
Right-clicked Windows Installer and clicked Properties.
Start Up Type is set to manual.
In the Service Status section, clicked Start

I've also tried reregistering the service...

Run msiexec.exe /unreg
Run msiexec.exe /regserver

I'm running a Dell XPS 15 with 32gb of RAM and a 2tb SSD
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 22H2
Installed on ‎7/‎4/‎2022
OS build 22622.436
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22632.1000.0

I've found no suggestions on the support site, QCAD forum or internet search (specific to QCAD).

Thank you so much for your time. - Josh Carlson

I have also run the following Windows commands as administrator and am still having the issue.

SFC /Scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Hi,

For the time being you could always try the 'ZIP Archive' version.
This is also available in your download area.
The entire file structure can be placed wherever you want.
You will probably need to create the desktop shortcut yourself.

QCAD does not require much registration or other functionality of an installer.
To uninstall, you can simply delete the entire folder tree and desktop shortcut.
In that case only a few traces will remain like the QCAD3.ini file and a library data base file (when used).

Regards,
CVH

Note that this is a problem with your Windows installation, unrelated to QCAD.

Please refer to the Microsoft support site at:

Thanks CVH. Using the zipped version and installing it to the program files directory seemed to work!

Thanks Andrew. As I research the msi installation issue, I'm finding that it may have something to do with Windows 11 22h2. I've tried many of the "fixes" that are on the internet, but none seem to work. After the next Windows update, I'll report back here if the issue is fixed.
