From a QCAD user:
My PDF files created from my drawings are much larger than the drawings.

DXF and DWG are data formats (containing only information, not exact presentation).

PDF is a presentation format containing the exact visual representation of each vector feature.

For example:
- A hatch pattern in DXF/DWG is just a boundary with a name for the pattern.
- A hatch pattern in PDF is a collection of hundreds (sometimes thousands or ten thousands) of lines that represent the hatch pattern.

DXF and DWG might also use blocks for repetitive content. This is not the case in PDF where repeated blocks references are duplicated and stored individually.
