Problem to snap block's reference

Post by stuman » Wed Sep 02, 2020 5:26 pm

I'm making electric plans, and using lot of library components.
Components are blocks whose reference point are a way out of block's body.
In that way blocks can be easily placed at the same distance away from buildin's walls.

Now I have problem to snap to block's reference point.
Is there some settings or something that I have missed?

Hi,
Snapping is not restricted to the selection.
For some reason QCAD snaps to line segment first.
You see this because it gets highlighted.

Placed the block somewhere else and again it will not snap to the block reference.
It finds other references in the block! :P

You might want to file a bugreport.

I would use snap auto and the snapper that is called 'Perpendicular'.
In the end there will be a certain order of things and every order has pro's and con's.

It's an unfortunate instance of a block with a reference point outside its bounding box. QCAD doesn't even consider that block reference for snapping when the mouse pointer hovers close to the reference point. The block (bounding box) is simply too far away from the mouse cursor.

I'd recommend to draw a single point at 0/0 of the block definition. This point can even be on an invisible layer.

Thanks Andrew,
Bounding box or not ... I get the picture ...

IMHO the one an only 'block reference' should be considered as a reference.
That is until otherwise proven wrong.
