3 point arc showing up far away from where it should be

Post by joe02151 » Fri Mar 06, 2020 11:56 pm

Hi, I just started using this program for drawing surveys, I'm using windows 10 with the newest version of QCAD. I'm having an issue when I go to draw a 3 point arc it projects the final arc outward away from where it should be. see the screenshot, I cant figure out what exactly it's doing.

Hi, welcome to the QCAD forum.

I see on the screenshot an arc. Without knowing what you tried to accomplish I can't see something wrong with it ...

Please elaborate your goal for this arc. If possible attache the drawing. Thanks.

thanks for the quick reply. Ok, so the three points I have selected are the points I want to use to make the arc, I click the first point, then the midpoint and the curve shows up in the correct spot (second screenshot) until I click the end point and then the curve shows up way out to the right (last screenshot)

It took me a while to reproduce it e_surprised
but I guess I got it. Puh!

First things first: I'm not sure what for you need the points - it would work without them too. Maybe you have a reason for that.

Howsoever:

1. no need to select the points. Just snap to them.
2. the 3 point arc tool needs only the three references for the arc. Make sure your "mouse fine motor skills" are not messing with you. Click three points - that its.

3. Here is what happens in your case - I don't know how that happens by accident but that is the only explanation which I have ....

When an arc is drawn and selected you can see reference points. Those reference points are used for manipulation. There are two in the middle, one can be used to move the arc the other one can be used to change the radius within a mouse track. For some reason, immediately after the arc is created, you grab with your mouse the last mentioned reference point and altered the radius.

With this in mind - please test it again and tell me how it works.

Is your grid on and you can snap to the grid? If yes what happens if you turn it off?

when the grid is on and I snap to points on the grid I can make a 3 point arc where it's supposed to be, however im trying to connect points that ive measured on the job to create a curve and when I select those points or any 3 points it pushes the curve off the drawing. it doesnt matter if the grid is on or off

I've still no luck to reproduce it!
Please post the drawing or an example drawing where I can reproduce the described issue. I don't need the bitmaps in the drawing. Thanks.
