Laggy interface on macOS
I'm running macOS 10.15.3 and QCAD-Pro 3.24.2 on a iMac Pro (3.2 GHz 8-Core Xeon W, 32 GB RAM 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM, Radeon Pro Vega 56 8 GB video card).
Many QCAD operations are laggy. Selecting an element, for example, highlights the element in gray, pauses, unhighlights the element, pauses, highlights the element with its 'handles' and updates the Properties dialog. Clicking where no elements exist deselects all after a similar flash and pause of highlighting.
Drawing a two-point line is slow, too. The second point lags far behind the mouse as it moves. After clicking the second point in place, there is another pause before the tool continues for extending that line with another.
Do I have a setting out of place somewhere? Is they a way to get QCAD speedy?

Re: Laggy interface on macOS
Qcad might get slower with huge and complex drawings.
But then we talk of really big files with lots and lots of blocks, splines or complex hatches in it.
Other examples can be 3th party dxf files.
Or faulty dxf/dwg files.
For that we need the examine the file itself.
If you have the explained behaviour in a new drawing then there is something not right.

Re: Laggy interface on macOS
It's not a complex file and it is a new drawing. Where should I be looking for a poor preference choice or some other configuration problem?

Re: Laggy interface on macOS
With a new drawing I meant one started in Qcad from zero.
You quoted back the '3th party' too.
Do you mean it is a new dxf/dwg from a 3th party?
The most recents post about lag are about:
Correct installation.
Blocks, Blocks in Blocks.
Splines or very short beziers-strings.
Many or very complex hatches.
Start by the first.
Do a clean and correct install.
This did solved it for so many.

CVH

Are there any notes or suggestions for ensuring a "clean install?"CVH wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 11:43 pmWith a new drawing I meant one started in Qcad from zero.

I have a file that started and a DXF export from another app and then was greatly redrawn in QCAD. But a freshly created new QCAD file shows the same lag.
I have no blocks, splines, bezier-strings, nor hatches. It's a very simple line and arc drawing.

Hi, I recomment to follow the installation tutorial by the letter and it should work like a charm.BobRockefeller wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 12:06 amAre there any notes or suggestions for ensuring a "clean install?"

One side note - never mix different QCAD versione in the same subdirectory.
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.
If a thread is considered as "solved" please change the title of the first post to "[solved] Title..."

Re: Laggy interface on macOS
I followed the instructions. Fortunately they were very simple! And I only have the one QCAD version.Husky wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 8:27 amHi, I recomment to follow the installation tutorial by the letter and it should work like a charm.BobRockefeller wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 12:06 amAre there any notes or suggestions for ensuring a "clean install?"

- Deleted the app.
- Opened the DMG for my macOS.
- Dragged the icon to the Applications Folder

No lag what whatsoever with the file.

Did you removed the ini file?

No. Where is the ini file (macOS).

Re: Laggy interface on macOS
That fixed it.
And after some experimentation, it seems as if the "problem" is switching on "Use full resolution for Retina display."
With that switched on, the lag returned. Bug? Or inherent limitation?

Re: Laggy interface on macOS
Using the full retina resolution will be slower by nature than using the normal resolution (QCAD has to compute / render four times as many pixels).BobRockefeller wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 2:44 pmWith that switched on, the lag returned. Bug? Or inherent limitation?

Re: Laggy interface on macOS
I understand that. But I have other vector-based applications that do not slow down, or if they do, not to the point of noticeable interface lag.andrew wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 11:02 amUsing the full retina resolution will be slower by nature than using the normal resolution (QCAD has to compute / render four times as many pixels).BobRockefeller wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2020 2:44 pmWith that switched on, the lag returned. I thought the days of lines at an angle rendering with jagged steps were over for modern, powerful computers such as the iMac Pro.
Are there plans to upgrade the underlying rendering engine to solve this? More and more computers, and almost all Macs, have high-resolution displays and those computers are especially prevalent in CADD.

Re: Laggy interface on macOS
Unfortunately, we have to rely on underlying toolkits for the rendering. If you're not happy with the performance or rendering quality of QCAD, I'm happy to offer you a full refund.BobRockefeller wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 1:22 pmAre there plans to upgrade the underlying rendering engine to solve this?
