Issues in manipulating blocks and library elements

Post by stuman » Tue Nov 26, 2019 10:31 am

Problems on manipulating blocks and library components:

1. Creating library component:
- Once the block has been selected, and given the command: ‘Create library item from selection BT’,
- the the module reference point should be selected as the library item reference point, but 'snap to reference' does not work as block’s reference point is often far out of the blocks entities, i.e. reference point is not on any elements of the block (line, arc, circle, etc.). So selecting the reference point is quite difficult.
- Now: block has first to be moved to grid, and then snap to grid can be used.
- by doing this for several hundred of components is annoying.

2. Selecting component from the library:
- Components do not have descriptive names, just a cryptic codes (in order to maintain compatibility to the old blocks), so selection of the component is based on their icons.
- Because of the library browser has a white background, and the blocks are yellow, it is really difficult to distinguish of the library components.
- Although the library is divided into several subfolders, the number of components per folder is still relatively high.

3. Insert library component to drawing:
- when inserting library component to drawing, there should be possibility to rotate component. I couldn’t find how to do it in the same command.
- if the component now needs to be at a different angle in the drawing, the rotation command must be executed after insertion, as almost every time.

Questions / suggestion:
1. What 'snap' -option I should use, in order to get blocks reference selected ?
2. In the library browser, how can I set the icon’s color to black?
Just like in printing function. Then all library components would be visible, no matter of they colors.
3. Is there a simple way to insert a library component to the drawing, just by one command so that it’s rotation can be controlled in the same time?

This has been improved in the current snapshot release. "Snap to reference" now snaps to the reference point for block reference entities, even if the mouse cursor hovers over the block reference entities.

I've added a feature request at:

Yes, there should be ("Rotation" at the top, in the options toolbar). You can also rotate stepwise using F5/F6.

Yes, there is!
There you see how we are used into some behaviour, if we have repeated it long enough!

Thanks, stuman
