Blocks - one file, many blocks

Post by giancarlob » Mon Mar 29, 2021 11:26 am

Hi,
I have a DWG file with many blocks (electrical symbols for floor plan)
I set the path in Library Browser preferences, but i m not able to insert a symbol at a time.
one block = entire dwg
I think I should use an explode function but I dont know how to do it.

Thanks in advance for you help

Library items are drawing files containing each exactly one symbol. You'd have to split up your file and save each symbol as its own drawing with just the contents you want for that single item.

If you do that often, it might be worth creating a script that exports each block of a drawing into its own file with the block name as file name.

If you have any follow-up questions, please attach your DWG file, so we can help efficiently, thanks.

You can open this file with QCAD (File > Open) and browse your blocks using the block list (View > Block List). However, this has nothing to do with the library browser which is meant to insert new blocks into a file.

PS: I've removed your attachment as it appears to have a copyright that does not allow re-publishing.

OK ty, I can view the blocks when I open the file.
But, my goal is to use this blocks IN another file (i.e. in a floor plan file)
how can I do this?

I mean use and browse this "symbols" as a part library

You'd have to split up your file and save each symbol as its own drawing (see above). You could also simply keep this file open and copy symbols over as needed using copy / paste.
