Convert 3 Metres to feet in Offset distance dialog. Metres * Feet Conversion(3.28084) If entered 3*3.28084' TypeError is Returned. If entered 3'*3.28084 correct answer is achieved. For ease of mind anyway of inputting 3 Metres * Foot Conversion Number (3.28084') without a TypeError? Notice I'm using the ' symbol. Drawing is in inches. I already know i can use 3*39.37008 and get the proper results. Just curious if I could use the ' symbol in the proper order.

Re: Metric conversion operation in Offset Distance dialog
Hi,
QCAD interprets 3*3.28084 as 3 inch * 3.28084. I don't think that is what you want ...
May I ask you a question? Why you are doing that on such complicated way? I would just use the converting tool (CU) in QCAD and switch back and forth to what ever unit is needed for the next input ...
I can't reproduce the type error. BTW: Your drawing is in inch. If you enter 3*3.28084 the proper result would be 9.84252 inch!planksworkshop wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 10:06 pmConvert 3 Metres to feet in Offset distance dialog. In this case QCAD got the unit symbol. 3' what stands for 3 feet what is equal to 36 inch. QCAD calculates 36*3.28084 = 118.11 inch what is again equal to 3 meter.

Re: Metric conversion operation in Offset Distance dialog
Hi. 3*3.28084' has TypeError 3'*3.28084 does not. Notice ' Symbol placements. Yes i did post i would use 3*39.37008 in my post to receive proper answer in my inch Drawing. Converting a 11469 lines 24 layer drawing back and forth using CU could cause erroneous entries or a screwed up drawing (ie. not selecting all of drawing to convert) Us Humans (Me) tend to make the odd mistake. I was more interested in the minutia of using the ' symbol in my case converting 3(Metres)*3.28084'(Conversion Feet) in Dialogs. Thanks.

Re: Metric conversion operation in Offset Distance dialog
The problem seems to be you can't use the feet symbol ' after a decimal number. Unless someone knows something else I guess I answered my own question.

Re: Metric conversion operation in Offset Distance dialog
Yep - I can reproduce it now ...
Try this: 3*3,28084'
The result is
Basically - I don't know which rules are used. But I also think it wasn't meant to convert different units and because of that I wouldn't trust it ...

Re: Metric conversion operation in Offset Distance dialog
Thanks for checking, and getting same result. 3*3,28084' I don't think I'll use the ' symbol but it was worth investigating. If someone needs a tip you can use 3*(3'+.28084*12) with reliable results.
