Clip to Rectangle
Hello newbie here.
Windows 10 64 bit, Qcad professional 3.25.2.0
looking to know if clip to rectangle has a limit on how many entries it can clip out. I want to clip out a large portion of a bigger file to work on it in a separate file. With all the poly lines I cant seem to just copy the area I want without missing some of the line work. I have attached the screen shots of the whole file and then one showing just the area I want to clip out. Also I attached to whole drawing file.
Thank you for your help.
Kevin

Re: Clip to Rectangle
Hi,
when I box-select around the yellow square including all that cross ... (Left->Right)
I get 85 entities listed:
- 2 Attributes
- 1 Block reference
- 1 Block reference & Attributes
- + points, lines, polylines and text
I copied these over to a new file.
Isolated the Attributes & Block references on a temporary layer and froze that.
At that point I can re-select what is in or crossing the yellow square and use CLR with success.
Downer ... points, lines and arcs
... MD > 33 doubles ... MZ > 10 about zero length.

Re: Clip to Rectangle
Hi Kevin,
1. The drawing was first drawn on an other CAD system, correct?
2. The drawing has 3D information
3. The use of Attributes is - let say - unusual or should I say wrong ...?
How to fix:
to 2.
Flatten the drawing to 2D below Menu / Misc / Modify
to 3.
One Attribute was used 58 times (LSD-16 Sec-18 Twp-043 Rge-08 Me etc.) All have the same Tag but different Text is used for the value. That is not the nature of an single Attribute ...
If you select all Attributes and explode them (what will make them to plain text) then you can keep at least the text info.
If 2. and 3. is fixed Clip to Rectangle will work just fine.
No, not really but QCAD has problems with the architecture of that drawing.pembinapasture wrote: ↑Tue Nov 03, 2020 3:08 amlooking to know if clip to rectangle has a limit on how many entries it can clip out.

Re: Clip to Rectangle
CORRECTION >>Note that Z is not zero was no issue for CLR.<<
EDIT CLR doesn't include Z-999999
For Z isnot zero ...
See revision: Entities at Z=-999999 recasted on layer '_Z(-999999)'

Re: Clip to Rectangle
Good morning,
Thank you for all your help so far.
CVH, your revision file doesn't capture all the line work in the yellow square. I have overlaid yours with the original can anything without the black(your file) is missing from the file. we are close. Is there a way the break the polyline at the borders of the yellow box then I ca select just whats in the yellow box and copy it?

1. The drawing was first drawn on an other CAD system, correct? Yes I imported it from another user that uses a different program. Not sure which one but I think its a GIS program like global mapper.
2. The drawing has 3D information, yes it will have 3-d information as it is in a UTM coordinate format.
3. The use of Attributes is - let say - unusual or should I say wrong ...?

Re: Clip to Rectangle
Hi,
My revision was not on clipping to the rectangle.
It was about what entities are at Z= -999999
Included a correction ... might have flatten to 2D already = habit.
If you merge layer '_Z(-999999)' back with the original one can locate those entities.
Both mine and Husky's reply explain that the Attributes are the issue.
https://qcad.org/rsforum/posting.php?mo ... 37#pr30101
https://qcad.org/rsforum/posting.php?mo ... 37#pr30104
I expected issues with Attribs and/or Blocks and that is why I isolate those first.
Husky has more resources ... & 3D ...

Re: Clip to Rectangle
In the real revision:
Without one of the top layers:
Select All (TA) .. Clip To Rectangle (CLR) .. indicate points
=> 517 entities ... seems that the Z-999999 disappear in thin air.
Zoom in and Undo/Redo
... Undo (or Revert to be sure)
After Misc .. Modify .. Flatten 2D
Select All (TA) .. Clip To Rectangle (CLR) .. indicate points
=> 604 entities
On layer '_Attributes' are 58 Attributes that:
- can't be selected with the mouse
- can't be selected with Y+
- are selected by TA
On layer '_Block References' there are 58 references one can select in a normal way.
Regards,
CVH
It was necessary to isolate both the Attributes, and the Block References !!Without one of the top layers:

Re: Clip to Rectangle
@ Kevin,
It'll take 1 - 2 minutes to make the drawing workable and to be able to work on a clip in a new drawing:
1. Flatten to 2D
2. Select Layer Entities on Layer "FeatureAttribs" -> Explode
3. Delete Block "FEATURE" in the Block List
4. Select yellow rectangle with Select Rectangle Area (right to left),
5. Launch "Clip to Rectangle, clip to the yellow rectangle boundary,
6. Clip is now selected, copy to clipboard,
7. undo
8. switch to a (new?) drawing, paste the clip, clean (delete) eventual "Leftovers from the yellow rectangle - done.
