I looked in the book of course but the only instruction I came across was, move entity . Is that the only description of the move command?
Maybe I'm missing something. what are the steps to grab and move a whole drawing. I want to move the side view over further away from my elevation view. I have grabbed it with the left mouse button and highlighted everything I want to move. but I cant figure out how to actually move the group highlighted and get it released in the new spot. I also need to move it straight across, so where is the ortho button located.
The move command

Re: The move command
You can window around all the parts you want to move. (Ex: Click lower left to upper right of all the entities then release mouse button). Then right click on any line of the items highlighted to move.
Choose [Modify > Move / Copy]. (Or type MV in the command line) Note the outlined shape of everything to move. Click destination point.
Then choose the "Delete Original" radio button in the dialog box.

Re: The move command
After you activated the move command on selected entities the snap options will pop up at the left.
In the lower part you can find the restriction section like ortho and so on.
The move command needs two references.
The source reference and the target reference.
You can snap or restrickt to whatever you like.
You can even use the command line and type the cartesian or polar coordinates, in absolute or in relative.

Re: The move command
Okay, thanks, making progress. I've successfully moved things now. Still trying to find the ortho button so I can move straight across. Also, what is meant by source reference?
I draw the window over the entity using left button on mouse, then hold and move the whole group to new location and click to drop there and clear the highlights. Where do I insert an exact location or snap to, in this process. I hope that's clear enough.

Re: The move command
For Ortho Control, there may be more than one way but this is how I get there.
When I'm about to draw a line, I do it in this order. pic1, pic2, pic3.
You'll only see the menus of pic2 and pic3 after you click the buttons
shown with arrows after starting with pic1
Left Menu Bar:

Re: The move command
If you drag the selection then Qcad will locate a reference nearby the point you picked to drag.
More precise is:
Make selection
Modify Move/Copy (MV)
Select your source reference point (with snap options)
Select your target reference point (with snap options)
Both references can be anything, a grid point if you like
Choose the desired options in the pop up dialog
Ortho, L/R or up/down restriction are located in the lower section of the snap options.
A reference point can be:
Entity endpoints, midpoints, center, vertex(poly), control point(spline)
But also any intersections, a grid point or a even completly free in the void.
With 'source' we simply differentiate from 'target'.
The move tool will first ask for a 'reference', the source in the first case.
As second point it ask for the 'Target reference'.
