Extension lines
Need a quick help how to hide extension lines in dimensions. Qcad/cam 3.21
Re: Extension lines
I can confirm that this is currently not possible with QCAD. You could create the dimensions in such a way that the extension lines are very short.
Re: Extension lines
Wow, that is one of the most important options, how do You think it looks on ready project with tons of extension lines. There should be an option to make them short at the ends of dimensions(i tried with options in dimension menu to make them short but it works only when u have extension lines all the same lenght but it is impossible on project), when should i expect update?
Re: Extension lines
Most important options? I doubt that! Just to be sure that we are on the same page please post an example screenshot. Thanks.
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.
If a thread is considered as "solved" please change the title of the first post to "[solved] Title..."

Re: Extension lines
You doubt that? I said clearly - make any project with a lot of dimension lines and see how it looks, no one wants to look at this, You cant present it formally
Re: Extension lines
Perhaps you should make a separate thread in the suggestions? If it is doable in the dxf/dwg specification then perhaps it might be implemented. I suppose, if it's that important, then you could take the source and refine your own QCAD?

Re: Extension lines
Hi,
I got this to work with Horizontal and Vertical dimensioning but not Aligned.
It is tedious but doable.
Click on the dimension and then go into Property Editor.
Go to the Extension Points. Point 1 refers to where you started dimensioning from.
Point 2 is where you dimensioned to.
For a Vertical line you want the Extension Point X value to be the same as the

For a Vertical Dimension you want the Extension Point X value to be the same as the Dimension Line X value.
For a Horizontal Dimension you want the Extension Point Y value to be the same as the Dimension Line Y value.
(I hope I don't have these backwards.)
You don't have to change both if you don't want to.
Try it and see if it works for you. Let me know.
Sorry for the double post, but my first one ended itself for some reason, probably dumb fingers.

Re: Extension lines
You can also click on the Dimension and drag the extension line to where you want it.
Again, only on the Vertical or Horizontal ones, not the Aligned.
Those are all I have tried so far.

Re: Extension lines
Rick: note that in newer versions of QCAD, you can shorten all extension lines to the same length as follows:
- select your dimensions
- View > Property Editor
- Fixed Extension Line: Yes
- Extension Line Length: 1 (or any other desired length)
- select your dimensions
- View > Property Editor
- Fixed Extension Line: Yes
- Extension Line Length: 1 (or any other desired length)
Re: Extension lines
THANKS That is so much easier.
However, can you select which extension lines this works on?

Re: Extension lines
The property editor operates on the current selection. Select only those dimensions you want to be affected.
The extension line length property cannot be applied to only a single extension line of a dimension entity.

Re: Extension lines
That is to bad. My method does allow changing just 1.
Options are good.
Thanks for the input, Andrew.

Re: Extension lines
Hi everyone, QCAD-Newbie but AutoCad veteran here.
This is exactly what I need, yet for some reason I can't select the "Fixed Extension Line: Yes" in the drop-down menu, which is highlighted greyishly. It keeps jumping back to "No". Probably some small thingie, however, I can't seem to figure it out myself, so any help would be appreciated.
I'm using 3.28.1.0 on a Windows 10 machine.
Thanks!

emilhaller: Could you attach your drawing file and indicate which dimension entity is affected? Thanks.
