Disable snap on hidden blocks

Post by dfriasb » Sat Nov 04, 2017 7:17 pm

Dear all,

I realised snap is detecting my hidden block elements. Is it possible to disable this behaviour to snap only visible blocks?

Thanks a lot! Best regards,
David

Hi David,

an invisible block should not be detectable and I can't reproduce that with 3.18.1.0 on Win10. Long time ago that was a reported bug but Andrew fixed it immediately. Can you attache (or PM) an example drawing?

Of course!

I'm running QCAD Pro Version: 3.18.1.0 (3.18.1) for Linux on Ubuntu 16.04. I attach here the drawing where I detected this behavior. As you can see, inside the topographic plan I made invisible a block called "Tul96TopoHeavy" in order to control the level of detail of this plan. In my computer I can still snap on it even when it is invisible. Snap points of invisible block are showed as "Reference" points.

Thank you! Best regards,

David

Thank you for the example drawing.

Yes, I can reproduce that and I think it is weird behavior too.
In this case the Block "Tul96TopoHeavy" is turned invisible but also used in Block "Topografic base suau" which is visible. That leads to this behavior.

Ok, I'm confused too but may I ask you how you created this block in block situation in "Topografic base suau" ? Copy and paste or is this "Tul96TopoHeavy" created directly inside the "Topografic base suau" block?

Hi Husky,

I'm pretty sure I created "Tul96TopoHeavy" while I was editing "Topografic base suau", so inside of it I guess.

Thanks!

Ok, I tested all kinds of creating this block in block situation and the result is always the same. If we have a block which contains also other blocks then QCAD will snap still to block entities which are invisible. I think that is a bug and you should file a bug report.

My two cents ...
Except of the discovered problem: I would not recommend to combine multiple blocks (nesting). In my opinion a block has to be composed as a single functional block. If your drawing contains more than 3 or 4 blocks you will loose the overview. Furthermore in the case that more than one draftsman has to work with the same dxf/dwg it needs to be as simple as possible - except you have a very detailed road map which explains step by step how a drawing has to be composed for that particular application.

Thank you again Husky!

I don't know how to file a bug report. I just got an account on Flyspray but I'm not sure this is the way to do it... Can you give me some help?

Thank you as well for your recommendations about block usage. I'll keep it in mind for next drawings!!

Best regards,

David

Certainly:
Register/Login on http://www.ribbonsoft.com/bugtracker/

Navigate to and click on "Add new task" ...

1. Use in Field Summary (1) an informative Title
2. Task Type / it could be a Bug report, or a Feature request ...
3 - 5 is self explaining
6. describe briefly but comprehensible why you file this report

In cases like this one just refer and link to the thread like viewtopic.php?f=32&t=5167

Now it's on the Attention List and Andrew will decide what needs to be done ....
