dimension style - overall scale (or... how to confuse the user)

Post by bambuko » Sat Sep 16, 2023 10:34 am

I can change Overall scale of individual dimensions by changing it's style properties.
Where do I change it as an overall setting for the drawing, please?

edit - just found it e_ugeek

it appears that in edit you need to modify:
Size scale factor

Am I correct?
and if yes, why two different terms for the same thing?

Code: Select all

QCAD Professional

Correct ... And you might want to enter a request on bugtracker.
Edit .. Drawing Preferences for the current drawing.
Edit .. Application Preferences for all new drawings.
Per individual Dimension entity as Style override.

It's both about the Dimension Style .. Both are called Scale .. A scale is a factor .. The difference is the word 'Overall'.

well...
I see the difference as follows
(common in green, difference in red):

changing/override dimensions style in Property Editor (for individual dimensions):
Overall scale

setting dimension style in either
Drawing Preferences (for current drawing) or Application Preferences (for all new drawings)
Size scale factor

To be honest I am not fussed whether you use Overall or Size factor.
My suggestion is that whichever you decide to use
they should be the same for each of the three cases (individual dimension, current drawing or new drawings).

I will try to enter request on bug tracker...

How can I adjust the overall scale in the dimension style settings to ensure accurate measurements
What we debate here are the style setting of dimension entities.
Not the linear scale factor what is used to correct measurements in drawings made at scale.

I have to advice to draw in a certain scale.
Select a design unit and stick to it, draw everything in scale 1:1.
Form then on the unit doesn't matter, CAD is basically unit-less.
