[Solved] Interface issue in version 3.24.2 on Windows

Post by ahmed_kamal » Mon Feb 24, 2020 1:17 pm

Hello Andrew and QCAD community,
This is my first post so I wanted to start it with thanking and congratulating you on the design of this great CAD solution. I am an Architect who used CAD systems for over 20 years now and I understand how challenging it is to develop an efficient CAD software, and not only you did that but also introduced some intuitive approaches too.

Going back to the interface issue, I was using an older version of QCAD 3.23 on Windows 10 64bit to evaluate the software before buying it and the interface looked smooth and had a very pleasing modern flat look, but when I bought the pro version I received the current version which is 3.24.2 which imho introduced a 3D interface design with the following issues:

- The radio buttons in the Dark theme currently look strange and makes it hard to distinguish which option is selected.
- The scroll bar background color in the dark theme is now white rather than the matching gray that was in version 3.23 and so are the side editors' close and detach buttons.
- The toolbar icon separator is now a hard 3D double line rather than the smooth doted line in version 3.23 in both the dark and default themes.

I attached images indicating these points, and I apologize if this was brought before in the forum but I did my best to search the forums before posting.

Is it possible to have the previous interface back in a future version? And if not or if it would take a lot of time is it possible that I can get access to the previous 3.23 pro version because it is much easier on the eye when working for long hours.

Thank you again and wish all the best to you and the community here.

Thanks for your feedback.

For some reason, QCAD looks a bit different here on Windows 10 64bit, QCAD 3.24.2:

I see same issue as ahmed when select Dark Theme. Default Theme is fine. I know I'm using snap, but it is still same as what ahmed shows. Also, when changing theme, Apply does nothing - restart required (not stated in that dialog).

Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

The latest snapshot 3.24.2.7 comes with a new, simpler dark theme for Windows / Linux based on colors (palette) instead of stylesheets.

I tried the new snapshot on Windows 64bit and I truly like the updated look. The dark theme is consistent all around the interface and even the command line bar now has the same dark color. Thank you Andrew for the quick update.

I know it is still the snapshot and you maybe already aware of that, but if I may point you to the "Tool Settings" page in the Application Preferences, the shortcuts & commands list text is black over gray making it hard to read.

Thank you again and my best regards.

Hi, I'd like to second what ahmed_kamal said. Nice consistent dark theme. Thank you. One note though, it's not obvious, but QCAD does need to be restarted to effect changes - not stated in the preferences.

Looks better and better.

On Win10 ...

I arranged the GUI with the default theme. Changed it to dark and it looks like switching will affect the space management of the toolbars too.
Not the big deal but secretly tools will disappear because they are now collapsed and the usual used arrow to expand them is only visible when I hover over it with the mouse.
