Draw/Polyline/Polyline from Selection - not selected

When I select Draw/Polyline/Polyline from Selection and a polyline is created. The new Polyline is not selected. Can the newly created polyline be selected?
Similarly, if I select several entities and those entities are on different layers, is the first listed layer (where one of the entities is on) the default layer where the newly created polyline is placed?
