Most of the time, I will use one particular version of a tool. I.E. Circle - center -diameter.
I have to select the circle tool on the cad tool bar, then center/diameter.
OR
select it from the tool matrix which takes up way to much screen space.
what if on the main CAD tool bar, it remembered the last version you used, but had a "fly out" to select other methods. This way for commonly used tools it would only take one click.
One extra click per tool selection is going to give me carpel tunnel syndrom

Re: Tool selection
Did you also consider using shortcuts for the most commonly used tools?
Typing CA will bring up the Draw > Circle > Center, Diameter.
A full overview of shortcuts is available at:
https://qcad.org/archives/shortcuts/shortcuts_en.pdf
A list of most recently used tools is also available in the context menu (right-click into the drawing area).
To avoid strain in your wrist and hands, you might also consider using an input tablet with a pen instead of a mouse. I've been using a Wacom tablet since more than 10 years and don't even have a mouse connected anymore.

Re: Tool selection
No need to reinvent the wheel again
Right click on an entity (depending on your settings) will show you a (recently used) tool history.

Re: Tool selection
all good thoughts. the right click last used commands is ok, but an extra click is gonna kill me. EasyCAD has a feature that I like, right click activates the last used command.
2 letter shortcuts have never appealed to me
