Is the Nesting Feature Only Available with Qcad/CAM

Do you have a question you want to ask an existing QCAD user about QCAD and what you can do with it? Do you want to know if a particular feature exists? This is the place to ask.

Is the Nesting Feature Only Available with Qcad/CAM

Post by John Hyslop » Sun Jan 26, 2020 3:43 am

Hi Andrew

I purchased Qcad Professional last year and downloaded a trial version of QcadCam..
Is the nesting part available separately? this is the only part I'm interested in.
I know there are open source apps out there eg Deepnest but it's not so open
it requires you to be online to open the dxf files.. I would much prefer to do
all this within Qcad.. are there any script files that do this?

Cheers
John

Yes, nesting is part of QCAD/CAM, since this is a feature primarily used in manufacturing. Please understand that nesting is an extremely complex process, by no means a small addition or just a few simple scripts as one might probably think.

Hi Andrew
Thanks for getting back to me.
Would you consider selling an add-on for QCAD Professional to do nesting.?
Many of my customers supply material to laser cutters to save money and often ask me how much material they would need.
Just now I either manually do or use a couple of lisp files that are ok or use the open source one I mentioned above..

Just a thought..I think it would be good for users that find the nesting feature useful and have no requirements for the CAM modules..

Cheers
John
PS I just looked at the price difference it's probably not worth splitting it up it was just a thought..
