Very, very slow!

Do you have a question you want to ask an existing QCAD user about QCAD and what you can do with it? Do you want to know if a particular feature exists? This is the place to ask.

Very, very slow!

Post by zoltan » Thu Jul 11, 2019 5:28 pm

Hello,

I'm looking to replace the soon expiring Draftsight for linux and found QCAD. Downloaded the 64bit linux version and tried it with some project files (DWG).

The problem is that the drawing manipulation is painfully slow, like - the trial expires before zoom in on some drawings. That's on 20M file, smaller ones are a little bit better, but not much.

Running Fedora 29 on Lenovo Thinkpad P51, SSD, i7-7700HQ and 32G RAM. I tried with both graphics cards with no difference in performance. Draftsight can open the file without problems and manipulate it with minimal "sticking"

Attached is a htop when trying to zoom in on 20M file.

It is not using all the cores on the CPU and some memory is still available. It is just sitting there spinning wheels.

So, should I continue and try to get it working, or it is futile excercise? I need it for reviewing DWG files made by others, not for my own drawings, so I cannot choose the format myself.

br, Zoltan

Unfortunately, QCAD is not designed for files of that complexity, sorry.

Well, this is not a good news :|

Any plans to change that?

We're working on improving performance, but the type of files you're working with will not be possible to handle in the near future, so you're definitely looking at another solution.
