Cool. I had looked thru the preferences and completely missed that one. Whilst not a complete solution, it certainly solves the immediate issue. Thank you Husky, I appreciate your assistance.

I hope this is something that is so obvious that it is intuitive -meaning I'm daft - but here goes. The CAD Tools box, located and docked on the left of screen, does not show snap options when using the line tool. The snap tools are below the window and I can't seem to be able to scroll down. Many thanks for explanation. I shall use this explanation as a basis for when I need hierarchy drawing levels. Makes sense (somewhat) and I'll also look at child-layers also for more structure organization (perhaps for blocks?)

I sort of figured it... but it's a kludge: Select all objects on Layer 1 and change the Draw Order to a value, say 10 Select all objects on Layer 2 and change the Draw Order to a value, say 20 I guess this could be tedious. What would be nice is if you could start layer objects at a predefined value...

Hi. Hope this is a simple answer. 2 layers: Layer 1 and Layer 2 - listed in that order in the layer dialog (below 0). I draw a line on Layer 1 - line displayed. Hi Dennis. My first post here too. And, I like you, am a total novice. Anyway, reading other bitz and bitz, I see you can convert images to dxf from InkScape. Maybe that's a start?
