As we all know - from time to time - it is a lot of work to prepare a part of a drawing for a hatch.
To get rid of one of the basic task (cutting lines along the desired hatch boundary) it would be nice to have an add-on - or what ever - what would cut ALL intersection in a drawing (or just on one layer, or just based on a selection etc.) with just a mouse click. Then it would be much faster and easier to do the selection for the hatch boundaries.
The user could decide to make it directly in his drawing or he like to duplicate the drawing to an extra layer where this function will be used ....

Maybe a tool like this could be an additional ‘Snap’ selection option - select all snap intersections or select snap intersections within a boundary! then as you suggest ‘cut’ at the intersection points.

When creating a new file, selecting the e. g. line tool at first opens the linemenu and the snap tool menu as expected. After clicking on the back button twice (going back to the main menu) and selecting the e. g. circle menu, the snap tool menu is shown instead of the circle menu. Instead the circle menu is shown after pressing the back button again.

This only happens when clicking on the back button, but with any tool menu seleected. Pressing escape to go back does not show this problem.

QCAD is running on Mac OS Mountain Lion.

I think it would be useful to add a note to the Application preferences dialog window, to explain to the user the difference between ‘Application and Drawing’ preferences and how it effects drawings in QCAD.

E.g. 0 degrees at the top, clock-wise for positive direction, alternative angle units.

Many constructions refer to a basis of elements, which stay constant in all follow-ups. As an example there is a floorplan and I would like to create different variations of room layout (e.g. A and B). In my example the basis consists of 30 layers an each variation needs 10 further ones. At last there are 50 different layers in my drawing. Designing layout A needs layer 1 to 30 (basis) and 31 to 40 (A) to be shown, but 41 to 50 (B) must be invisible. Now I modify Var.B which makes me to single click the visibility of 31 to 40 (A) to be not shown and 41 to 50 (B) to be shown. You’ve got it?

It would be great help, to save the set of all shown layers by an individual name in a pulldown-menu. Visibility of my variations could be chosen by userdefined “set of layers”, e.g. “Var-A”, “Var-B” and “Var-A_but_different”. In this way I pick just one set-name in my pulldown-list instead of marking and demarking between countless layers.

In my opinion this tool would be a small aspect in QCad but a giant leap for user-pleasentness

In the US, it is (unfortunately) still common to use US survey foot. It seems at least some DXF applications/libraries support this unit as a $INSUNITS value, some references:

There are two issues regarding this with QCAD:

1. If you open a document with $INSUNITS being 21, it’s reset to 0 (unitless/unspecified) when saved again, even when not changing anything.
2. It is not possible to select these units in the GUI.

I don’t know about standardization of these values, but my hope is that it’s at least possible to preserve the unit in an existing drawing. Given that this unit is supposed to be obsolete in some years, it might seem less important, but due to this transition, it might get even more important to be able to distinguish between units. I've tried several times to try to see what the "surveyor's units" option of the Angular Dimensions format in the UI preferences will display as, but all it ever seems to do is cause the angle measurement to become blank. No angles are displayed whenever this mode is selected.

Indeed, I cannot figure out what the setting actually does besides causing angles to never be displayed.

Is there a way to make this setting do something meaningful or is it just broken?

I found an old forum thread from 2016 about this same issue and it sounds like the same things is still happening since then.

I'm not a surveyor so I have no actual practical use for these units that I can yet see, but I just figured I'd add an report to the bug tracker here in case any developers aren't aware that the bug still seems to exist.

Does the setting do anything besides changing the displayed units in the status bar?

I think it’s a useful adition and makes it easy to select objects that are overlapped. I know there is a selection filter, but sometimes this is faster and/or all the objects share the same type and such things.

If I remember correctly, Inkscape has this behaviour.

Currently if I position one Tab (KT) to stacked profiles QCADCAM will use it on ALL in Z matching profiles. Practically in most cases would be to use tabs only on the lowest profile.

It would be nice to have some kind of control on which profile a tab has to be used.

When I zoom, the text disappears in certain zoom levels after updating to the latest version.

Text dialog (QTextEdit) strips tabs in toHtml.
If tabs can be retained, text entities could support tabs.

I was having some problems getting some shapes to fill with a solid fill and was frustrated by the awkward numeric coordinate it was giving me for where the error (the disconnected shape points) were, until I fortunately noticed that a tiny pale circle appears around the point where the error is for about just 1 second.

This is a very helpful error indicator circle but is far too easy to miss.

Perhaps making it last longer (or letting the user control that) would be beneficial.

I also wonder if showing multiple such circles (when they exist, as they did in the piece I was working on) at the same time or having that as a UI option would be good.

Feature request - to have an option to underline text.

Drawing converted from inch to mm - undo leads to wrong dim label position. I can fix that with “Reset Label position” but it would be nice if QCAD could to that in first place.

I am getting random crashing on my MacBook M1 chipset while using QCAD Pro. There is nothing in particular that you can do to replicate as the crashing is completely inconsistent. Have had it crash when pressing escape while using measurement tool, but have also had it crash while using the app and selecting a tool.

Included crash report, which has also been sent to Apple.

If there is no selection the Properties Editor could be used to predefine the properties of to be drawn elements.

It would be a nice feature to be able to define your own toolbar.

Vertical dimensions created with 3rd party applications are sometimes imported as horizontal dimensions with length 0. Changing the angle in the property editor fixes the problem.
Problem occurs in QCAD 2.2 and QCAD 3.0.

When using the vertical line tool, you can enter a length value in the options toolbar, then place the line. If you want to change the length, you just need to enter a new value and the length field will update. However, there seem to be cases where after 10-20 entries, the focus goes off the length field in the options toolbar, requiring the user to bring focus back to continue. I could not seem to duplicate this behavior with the horizontal line tool.

Hier meine Gedanken ....

In den Application Preferences kann ich mehrere Library Sources vorgeben. Ich habe eine auf dem HD und eine auf einen USB angegeben.

Wenn ich nun QCad auf der HD ausführe habe ich beide Ressourcen zur Verfügung. Schön! Natürlich habe ich auch im Library Browser meine Favoriten von beiden Ressourcen angegeben.

Wenn ich nun aber den USB entferne zeigt mir der Library Browser immer noch beide Resorcen als Name an - schalte ich nun um auf die USB Resource bekomme ich keinerlei Hinweis das diese momentan nicht zur Verfügung steht. Es passiert einfach NIX Es wäre schön wenn ich hier eine “Nicht verfügbar” Meldung bekommen würde.

Wenn ich nun meine Trotteligkeit bemerke und den USB wieder einstecke habe ich logischerweise wieder meine Library zur Verfügung ..... nur die auf den USB Stick verweisenden Favoriten sind auf Nimmerwiedersehen verschwunden. Die auf dem HD bleiben erhalten!

OK - um es ganz rund zu machen ein anderes Szenarios in “Steno”:
QCad Start vom USB - > Library Favoriten anlegen auf USB Library - > QCad schließen - > USB entfernen → QCad auf HD starten - > Library Favoriten auf USB sind verschwunden - > QCad HD schließen - > USB einstecken und QCad von USB starten = Favoriten auf USB bleiben verloren!

Wäre es hier nicht möglich die Favoriten Information dem USB mit auf dem Weg zu geben? Wenn ich eine Favoriten Auswahl auf dem USB nicht kontrollieren kann macht diese Möglichkeit kaum Sinn.

With default autosnap settings reference points included I find it very hard to snap to the baseline reference points of a dimension.
I manage to do it by setting snap to reference point only and zoom out till I see the entire dimension element.

It would be helpful if the scale field that appears while placing a viewport would also re-appear when the viewport is selected after it’s already been placed in the layout. It would also be helpful if the pre-populated values in the dropdown matched those in the global layout scale field.

1. The Scrollbars for each window in the Viewports has the same size like the normal used scrollbars for windows. If you are working on a normal size Monitor it “steals” a lot of “working space”. Is there any possibility to make the scrollbars smaller or just a line to separate the windows so that I have to navigate with Keyboard and mouse?

2. I thing the Viewports and the View List belongs together - is it possible to get a button in the “View List / Tool Bar” to choose a Viewport style instead of “walking” the long way over the “Drawing preferences” Menu?

When selecting multiple blocks that contain the same attribute names, attribute properties appear with the values of the last selected block instead of “various”. I do not know if this is a “bug” or developer option, but “various” would be better in my opinion.

Already two different users report that Landscape is printed cropped in portrait format, both Win11. The behavior change occurred recently.
Although the second user (rdtsc) reports the same behavior for latest Mabox Linux (Manjaro, Arch.)

Can not replicate that on Win7 32 bit nor on Win10 64 bit, both are no longer or not updated OS. For one, I have no orientation setting displayed in my printer dialog.

It seems not to be related to the QCAD version:

Add parameters to the function DL_Dxf::writeVPort.
This way users will be able to specify the desired viewport.

As a heavy mechanical drawings user, it would help a lot to have an option to exit a block saving as a new name and making it a new entity from that time ahead.

Example: if a have a lot of screws, one of then is behind another peace and need the to have some lines changed to hidden style lines, in the flow of the work is great if I edit that screw in place and when exiting have the option to save as a new block, to don’t mess with other entities of the same block that I don’t want to change. Yes, there is a workaround that is duplicate and rename the block prior to the editing, but a save as seems to work easier.

I find myself with reasonable regularity needing to change the background color between black and white. It would be much more efficient to have a toggle button on the ribbon to make this sort of instant (kind of like the “screen based line types” button works but make it for background color and just between black and white or let people define their dark and light themes and toggle the background between the two.

Add attribute value “By Parent” for color, line weight, line style for child layers.

The Midpoint Handles should be used to move Polyline Segments and lines. This would add easy to access stretch functionality.
Combined with a shortcut(hold down shift or alt etc.) to fix the movement to be orthogonal to the line this would bring a lot of extra value.
It would also be possible to to have another shortcut to easily insert nodes to Polylines (again hold shift or alt etc.)

1.Enable or disable Snap label with text.

2.To have a ‘Snap Marker’ with style and colour choice instead of snap label.

When editing an existing toolpath to update the parameters of the selected tool, we can update the Feed Rate and the Plunge Rate, but I couldn’t find any way to update the Spindle Speed.

Even when using the Edit Tool KE button, we can edit parameters of the tool on concern but none of the modification is applied to the current Toolpath because as I see, tools parameters are copied fron tools definitions to a Toolpath only at creation of this Toolpath, but Toolpath are not updated accordingly.

Could you please add an edit field for Spindle Speed in the CAM Profile Toolpath window?

Hi!

A friendly request to add an option to disable hatch rendering on “dwg2bmp” conversions.

Depending on the nature of the conversion and the density of the hatch, this may render unintelligible images (see attachments). The option could look like “-t, -nohatch” to indicate hatches should be hidden before rendering. This could potentially become an option too for “dwg2svg” or “dwg2pdf.”

I’ve been able to make this work as proof of concept very easily, but many of the functions are inaccessible/difficult to override from post-processors.

Desired functionality:

1) Enable “Add Profile Toolpath” UI elements all the time (remove setRequiresSelection)
2) CAM Profile Toolpath Dialog: Drop-down menu of available Layers. First option “By Selection Only” 3) “By Selection Only” continues to pass EntityIds of selected objects (existing functionality)
4) Choosing an active Layer will use the Layer as source of EntityIds
5) Any changes to Entities on a Layer will result in those new/removed/changed objects being re-generated without having to manually select and update the tool paths. Either do not recover list of EntityIds from the ToolpathBlock, and instead use “live” each time it’s regenerated, or additional functionality to determine if a LayerId is associated with the Toolpath, and then lookup EntityIds.

I assume the persistence of the Layer selection would be available within the Toolpath, so that it will automatically update EntityIds every time a Toolpath is regenerated, without having to select Entities and updating the toolpath manually.

For large projects, being able to force select objects based upon layer dramatically reduces mistakes and speeds up the workflow.
