On a complex system, I define the assembly, but then you end up making a detailed drawing of sub components for manufacturing. Having the detailed drawing linked to the main assembly would sure be quite a bonus so that the detailed part be updated automatically to follow the development of the main ass'y. I believe that in order for such a feature to be effective, it probably means that both drawings should be opened at the same time in one instance of QCAD...
This could be combined with my batch print request. You could adjust "Global" features and print across a block of drawings.
