There is one important ACAD feature that I would really like to see supported in QCAD3 and that is “Layouts”

Looking at the block lists, it seems to me that it can’t be too much extra work to support it, since the model space and different paper spaces are already shown there - and one can edit it.

QCAD draws infinitely easier than ACAD and drawing layouts is a primary feature of ACAD. With this in QCAD I can hardly see why anyone that does 2D work would need ACAD at all.

Chain dimensions

Reference dimensioning (baseline dimensioning)

Create multiple dimensions using the same base line.

Configure font used for dimensions.

I would like to get a submenu in properties to define own line types, i.e. one dash and three points or line + block.

Edit: Add support for custom line types defined in DXF / DWG files.

It would be a nice feature to be able to select multiple layers to remove them all at once.

With dxflib, QCAD cannot open any file with Chinese file name or path name, it popups a “Important Error” dialog.
But the writing (”Save As” command) with Chinese file name or path name is of no problem.
Does it mean dxflib can only handle single byte characters file name/path name?

Please, dear Feature Fairy, I wish for hierarchical layers. That would make organizing my projects a little bit easier.

It would be great if the user could choose a default template for new drawings.

There exists already a “File → New from Template” feature, where I can choose a template, but in most cases I want my new drawings to be based on my default template.
It would be very convenient if there is an option to set the default template and use it for the “File → New” function.

An option for unidirectional dimensions, in addition to the default aligned dimensions.

Show area of closed polyline, hatch, solid fill in property editor.

Disable grid snap for auto snapping or otherwise configurable auto snap.

Possibility to draw Polygons with a given dimension for across flats (not only corners).

Having practically no experience in scripting, a recorder that one could activate to memorize repetitive tasks (ie: inserting several layers with different attributes when starting a new drawing)would a useful tool to help get a start on scripting.

Layers are great for organizing a project. For construction lines alone I sometimes use 3 and more layers. And then there are more layers for each part I design. Each with its own colour.

And when a project gets bigger I start wishing for a quick overview in the layer list to the colours I use on them. So I wish for colour indicators on the layer list to quickly identify the membership of a line to a layer.

I have a small image attached to make you see, what I mean.

It would be useful to have an additional line tool that could be drawn tangent to an existing circle and perpendicular to a line.

The property editor should do,
if I change
Selection: All(xx)
by Filtering by Entity Type
Selection: Circle(xx)
only the selected enteties(in this case the circles) should be selected, so we will be able to copy, delete ... directly

Although this report is specific to Magic Mouse on OS-X Mountain Lion, since mice are a fairly common commodity across all platforms, I suspect this may be a more common issue across multiple platforms. The issue is that with my Magic Mouse, when I zoom into or out of the drawing by dragging my finger forward or backward on the mouse (equivalent of rolling the scroll wheel of a mechanical mouse), the zoom keeps zooming (in either direction) LONG after I have stopped moving my finger! Now, I do have my scroll speed set high because I have a large monitor and like to get around on it fast. But QCAD is the only application that does this exaggerated scrolling, so there must be some missing conversion or time constant issue going on here. I could change the speed of my mouse and that would likely fix it: in QCAD. But then all my other apps would be too slow with the mouse. Maybe there needs to be a custom setting in the Preferences that allows to user to set the mouse speed for just inside QCAD. But I suspect its more just a mouse speed parameter conversion error.

An option to remember the last active layer in an exisisting drawing when reopening.

At closed Polygons: Chamfer / Bevel / Round tools are not proper working at the Start/End corner transition.

Add option to treat entities with identical geometry but reversed direction as duplicates.

Original report:
In the attached example, there is a double line from 46/28 to 46/-28.
However it is not detected when searching for double objects.

Not too sure if this would be possible for QCAD, but an option to open/import pdfs would be good.

it occorred to me now several times, that I have been working on 2 or more files simultaneously when suddenly on some operations layers from one file showed up in the other file. nothing was pasted when it happened just many files open, or few files with many layers in them. (about 100 layers, but sometimes also only 10 layers)
Today I disabled a single layer in one dxf (A) which caused all layers of the other dxf (B) to show up in the layer list (and the layers that should show up were all gone).

I knew this already from 2 more occurances and tried the best to undo all my changes in (A) before “emergency saving” (A). I closed one of the two dxf files (A), leaving one open (B). Everthing seemed pretty normal again. Then pressing the “hide all layers” button just crashed qcad without any message. That crash on “hide all layers” happened twice today). I can’t reproduce the crash right now, but will add details here when I find something. As far as I remember the bug occured already in qcad 3.17, but I’m now on 3.18.1

I’m not able to import any dxf or dwg.

This is either a bug or a feature request, depending on perspective; my apologies if I’ve picked the wrong one. Additional discussion can be found here.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create an entity
2. Run “Create Library Item” [BT]
3. Select Reference Point

Expected outcome:
“Save As” dialogue opens in the directory that the previous library item was saved in

Actual outcome:
“Save As” dialogue opens in ( RSettings.getLaunchPath() + “/libraries” )

Additional Context:
The reason I’ve categorized this as a bug is because, relative to the behaviour of the main “Save As” dialogue (which does remember the last directory used) the behaviour of the “Create Library Item” “Save As” dialogue is unexpected.

The alpha property is a new feature. Now that we are using it it can be added to tools like the “Property Painter”.

Add alpha property to filter for hatches.

Edit: And it fails often to read the menu at all at the first time. A second try will display the information ...

add “update required file” to the context menu shown in the result window

1. copy the actual file to the directory “required”
2. run the test again
3. test result should be “passed” now

Autosnap does not recognize the center of a circle as a reference point.

The Snap “Reference” is perfect working on circles.

I would be nice to have this function also on Arc’s.
There are many necessities to attach a Horizontal or Vertical line on an arc or an “ex circle” (circle after a cut,)rounds etc. in a professional drawing.

After Update to RC5 there are NO icons displayed

Incorrect rendered faltering types of lines with the dwg2pdf tool.
Some of them: “DOT”, “DOT2”, “CENTER2”, “BORDER2”, “DASHDOT2”, “DIVIDE2”, “DASHED2” and others.
Lines are drawn by the “compressed”.
But when exporting through the menu “File” → “PDF Export”, lines are drawn as expected!
