FS#1539 - One more "Offset" option: Infinitive Line ...

hi,

I miss one Offset option to use an offset indirectly related to the used entity. Right now I have to work with further construction lines and trim, divide, delete etc. tools to archive what I need.
Basically an offset as a ray would be enough but unfortunately we have no control of the Ray orientation.
This said - it would be nice to have an infinitive line added to the “Offset Polyline Segment” option to be able to use an Offset as construction line which is not only reflecting the shape of the source.

Existing feature in Draw > Line > Parallel

You can use the Draw > Line > Parallel tools to create parallel lines, xlines (infinite lines) or rays. The base shape can be a line, xline, ray or a polyline segment.

I don't know why but I overlooked that tool. Thanks!

Question: What is the difference between
Auto / Same Entity typ as original and Line Segment?

Auto means that the created parallel has the same type as the original (a line for a line, an xline for an xline, a ray for a ray).
The other options force a specific entity type for the created parallel.

Thank you Andrew - that is what I thought but unfortunately that doesn't works on that way. And that confused me a lot!

First of all - I can't switch the options back and forward. If I use first (default) the "Auto" option it works nicely with line, polyline, ray and infinitive.
If I then switch to "Line Segment" I get a 1 unit parallel on ray and infinitive. Line and polyline creates a 1 to 1 parallel to the original. What are the rules for that? Is there a setting for from/to lengths? I checked the Reference Manual and the book but wasn't able to find an answer.

If I then go back to "Auto" it will still behave like "Line Segment" and will stay that way until I terminate the tool and start again.

Thanks. I've filed another bug report for the problem with switching back to Auto at:
http://www.qcad.org/bugtracker/index.php?do=details&task_id=1540

The length used for line segments is the length stored in the ray or xline (distance between the two reference points) which is indeed always 1.0 after saving / loading. This could be improved in various ways in future versions.
